The Formation of Lake Wolfgang

Lake Wolfgang was formed through erosion caused by two glaciers. Originally, the lake was about 50 metres higher, but since around 18,000 BC, it has settled at its current altitude of 538 metres above sea level. Its main source of fresh water is the Zinkenbach spring, and in theory, it takes nearly four years for all the water in the lake to be replaced. In addition to the Zinkenbach, two other springs also feed fresh water into the lake.
