It might not come as a surprise that pilsner beer has its roots here. Specifically, it originates from the city of Pilsen, once part of Austria-Hungary but now in Czechia. The beer style was created in 1842 after stricter beer regulations led local brewers to invent a new type of beer with the help of Josef Groll, a well-known brewer at the time. The result was pilsner, which has since become a world-famous beer style.
