The History of Calvi
During Roman times, Calvi was Corsica’s most important port city. Unfortunately, little remains from this era. Calvi truly flourished in the late Middle Ages, becoming a Genoese settlement. Several historic buildings from this period have been preserved, such as the citadel and the palace of the Genoese governors. Alongside its beaches, olive groves, and rugged hinterland, Calvi’s cultural heritage began attracting tourists in the latter half of the twentieth century.
