Rich History, Famous Figures, and Plenty to Enjoy
Metz is renowned not only for its significant history shaped by the First World War, but also as the birthplace of many notable individuals. Aviation pioneer Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier was born here in 1754, as was composer Gabriel Pierné in 1863. The city is also home to the professional football club FC Metz, which competes at the highest level in France, Ligue 1. Unsurprisingly, several well-known footballers hail from Metz, including Cyrille Pouget, Jonathan Joubert, and Arnaud Lusamba.
