Search for campsites in the Lofoten Islands

The Lofoten Islands are an archipelago off the northern coast of Norway, located about 400 kilometers above the Arctic Circle. Surprisingly, the climate here is milder than you might expect, thanks to the Gulf Stream and its extensions—the North Atlantic Current and the Norwegian Current—which bring relatively warm water to the Norwegian coast. The villages of Røst and Værøy are among the northernmost places in the world where the average temperature does not drop below freezing. Lofoten is renowned for its breathtaking natural scenery, featuring dramatic mountains, sharp peaks, hidden bays, beautiful beaches, and open sea views. The islands have been inhabited for at least 11,000 years, with archaeological discoveries dating back 5,500 years. Lofoten is especially famous for its fishing industry, particularly cod fishing. Each winter, cod migrate from the Barents Sea to the Lofoten Islands to spawn, and you’ll often see racks across the islands where fish are left to dry. Read more

What to See in the Lofoten Islands?

The true highlight of Lofoten is its breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds you at every turn. From mid-May to mid-July, the sun barely sets, creating long, light-filled days. In contrast, from early December to early January, the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon, leaving the islands in darkness. However, from October to March, you have a good chance of witnessing the magical Northern Lights.

Lofoten is also a fantastic destination for an active holiday. There are challenging hikes to mountaintops—though not all trails are clearly marked—along with opportunities for rock climbing, swimming, and mountain biking.

Here are some attractions that are definitely worth a visit:
