Camping Holiday in Galicia
This region is called Galicia in Spanish, so you’ll often see that name used. Galicia is an excellent holiday destination for bird enthusiasts. If you’re passionate about birdwatching, a trip to Galicia is highly recommended, as many unique species can be spotted here. For the best experience, choose a camping holiday—bring your tent and enjoy birdwatching right from your campsite.
Coastline
The coastline in this part of Spain is just as stunning as the Costa Brava. Along the edges of the beaches, you’ll find dramatic cliffs that evoke a sense of the Norwegian fjords. You get a touch of northern scenery, but you’re still enjoying the Spanish atmosphere.
Facilities at Campsites in Galicia
The campsites in Galicia are often well equipped. Many have a small supermarket, a restaurant, and laundry facilities. Campsites are usually classified according to their amenities. Higher-rated sites tend to offer more luxuries and a wider range of facilities, while more basic sites still often feature a swimming pool and a helpful reception.

What Makes Galicia So Special?
One of the most westerly points in Galicia is Cape Finisterre, which means ‘end of the world’. It’s a dramatic cliff where the land truly meets the sea—a name dating back to Roman times, when people believed this was the world’s westernmost point. The cape is reached by a route of about 3 kilometres that ends at the water, making it a memorable walk for visitors. As a bonus, the sunsets here are absolutely breathtaking.
Gothic Churches
Several villages in Galicia boast beautiful Gothic churches, especially in Betanzos, where three have been perfectly preserved. Many other villages also feature charming churches well worth a visit.
The Romans
The Romans left a rich legacy in this region. One highlight is a lighthouse, still in operation and preserved in its original Roman style: the Tower of Hercules, located in La Coruña. You’ll also find other monuments and ancient bridges throughout Galicia. In Santiago de Compostela, for example, you can visit a university with Roman origins.
Your New Favourite Holiday Destination
Galicia isn’t yet a mainstream holiday region, but it certainly has the potential to become one. For now, you can still enjoy its quieter, less touristy areas. If you’re searching for a new favourite destination, Galicia could be the place for you. Some people assume it always rains here, but that’s simply not true.
Galicia is also a fantastic spot for diving, with plenty of fish to discover in the clear blue sea. Many beaches are perfect for diving, too. The local people are known for being friendly and laid-back. You won’t find wild beach parties here—locals prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. One local specialty to try is ‘Aguardiente de hierbas’, a herbal liqueur that some homemade versions even infuse with a bit of cannabis. We can’t comment on the taste, so why not try it yourself during a wonderful camping holiday in Galicia?
